FINISHED!!!
As of 4:30 this afternoon, the 2009 harvest is officially done! Thank you Lord! We won't have to listen to Christmas music in the combine after all! It seemed at times like we would never be done, and were resigning ourselves to having some crop out there till next spring, but that was not a happy thought. Thanks to the blessing of not much rain lately, even though the forecast has rain in it for almost every day, and another blessing of family, friends and neighbours who were willing to help us out after their crops were off, we are done!
One afternoon we had our own swather and one combine, as well as the neighbours swather and combine out on the field and made good progress eating up the acres.Unloading beans onto the grain cart, from which they were loaded onto the semi, and then trucked home or to the dryer at the neighbours. The beans were not dry enough so we were fortunate to get onto the drying list and so we could haul them straight from the field to the dryer to get dried down a couple of percentages, dry enough so that the elevator was willing to take them.
Yesterday and today we had two other fellows with pickup headers on their BIG John Deeres come and help us and then the acres were gobbled up. This picture was taken when the work was done.
Time for a coffee break, now that the, beans are all off! It feels good!
There is still no lack of work to be done, and no doubt we will still have a lot of busy days ahead, but the pressure will be less, we can breathe easier, and know that next spring we can get straight to seeding without having to worry about combining first. This harvest season has been a real challenge but we have been trying to not worry, or at least not much, and take it one day at a time, and we see that God has been faithful----again! Why did I doubt? Thank-You God for blessing us with this! Thank you all who helped us out these past few days---you know who you are---we appreciate what you did!

Hey, that is awesome! I wondered at times if you were combining but it just didn't seem like combining weather! We're so happy for you!
Happy for you guys. We too were blest by the help of friends yesterday. What joy fills our hearts when the guys get lots done!!!
This post was so great. It made me happy to see some of the work that has been going on ~ I feel like I've missed so much of the 'going-ons' this year (this long, dreadful, yet 'God-has-been-faithful' year).
Yes, there is a lot more to do, but how wonderful to know that the pressure to get the crops off is off.
Yay it's over! Another one for the record book. Now to find my way back to "normal" again.
