Harvest is Here! PTL!!

We are in the middle of September and the weather has been quite summer like the last week. Highs of 28 C or for you who are more familiar with Fahrenheit--82 degrees. Because of this, we have been able to get to harvesting, and the crops are ripening. It has been a busy week with days full of farming activity. There has been a lot of wheat swathing going on, as well as swathing oats at the beginning of the week, and getting into the combining yesterday, and the oats were dry. Haven't heard any comments about yields yet though. We got some canola swathed a couple of weeks ago and so that is ready to combine as well.

Kerry has been driving one combine in the canola, and Peter has been going in the oats with the other.

Erik has been kept busy with the hauling and the unloading. I give him a hand on the yard when I can, doing the testing or just watching things so he can have some supper or something to drink. I also do a lot of people moving, a pick up here and a drop off there, that kind of stuff. I keep the iced tea and cold coffee made and make sure Kerry gets fed.

Right after the canola is harvested the seeder comes out to seed winter wheat, and sometimes the combine hardly can stay ahead. And as soon as that is done, Kerry has to get out and spray the weeds so the wheat has a chance. So there are many operations going at the same time with limited number of operators but things are happening. For a while there we were not sure if we would even get the crop off before frost so we are just happy for the busy days and everything that is coming into the bin.
